HP targets sales negotiations with 3Par following £1.2bn bid
HP begins bidding war with Dell
Hewlett Packard (HP) is targeting sales negotiations with 3Par having tabled an improved $1.8 billion (£1.2 billion) bid for the data storage firm.
The computer giant tabled the offer shortly after rival company Dell agreed a deal to take over 3Par for $1.6 billion.
Dave Donatelli of HP claimed the firm is better positioned to complete the deal than Dell.
He said: "Not only is our offer superior to Dell's proposal, HP remains uniquely positioned to execute on the combination given the number of synergies between the two companies."
Dell initially signed a $1.15 billion takeover agreement with 3Par last week but the computer firm was required to match any competing bids.
HP entered its first bid of $1.6 billion on Monday (23rd August) which forced Dell to quickly increase its own offer.
The potential deal highlights the growth of cloud computing technology, which enables users to access files and services over the internet.
