LU poised for strike negotiations after second union backs walkouts
Transport Salaried Staffs Association votes for tube strikes
London Underground (LU) is set for strike negotiations with its
staff after members of a second union backed walkouts.
The Transport Salaried Staffs Association (TSSA) has revealed
that its members voted three-to-one in favour of industrial
action.
Last week, the Rail Maritime and Transport (RMT) union voted to
go on strike in a dispute over planned staffing cuts in ticket
offices across the network.
Gerry Doherty, head of TSSA, claimed the organisation is
disillusioned with impending budget cuts made by the coalition
government.
He said: "We want to serve notice on David Cameron that we are
not going to sit idly by while he starts cutting jobs and services
in London in the run-up to the Olympic Games."
Mr Doherty and RMT boss Bob Crow are expected to meet next
Tuesday (August 24th) to discuss potential strike dates.
Reports claim industrial action is likely to be held on
September 6th when MPs return after the summer break.
