Unite seeks resolution in strike negotiations

Unite claim they would prefer not to hold strikes

Unite has claimed they will seek a quick resolution to the strike negotiations which are due to be held today (August 16th) with British airport operator BAA.

Around 6,000 crucial airport staff such as firefighters and security staff could hold walkouts in a dispute over pay after Unite members voted in favour of strikes last week.

The industrial action could cause six UK airports, including Stansted and Heathrow, to shut down during the summer holidays.

Unite boss Tony Woodley claimed the union are is looking to reach an agreement which would prevent any strike action.

He told skynews.com: "There is no reason why a new offer can't be on the table and we can't ballot our people about what they think about it

"Our members want to see something that allows them to maintain their standard of living - we want a settlement and we will be doing our best on Monday."

BAA offered employees a 1.5 per cent pay rise which was swiftly rebuffed by Unite as being unsatisfactory.
