Strike negotiations might be important in 2011

A surge in strike action has been predicted for the new year.

Strike negotiations may have an important part to play in 2011, if recent suggestions are anything to go by.

This follows predictions from senior union leaders that a surge in action will be seen next year on a scale not witnessed since the campaign to abolish the poll tax.

Mark Serwotka, the leader of the Public and Commercial Services Union, stated strikes in the spring are "inevitable" and might have an impact on the royal wedding between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

Serwotka told the Times: "Strikes are inevitable. We are looking at the spring. The more of us that stand together against the cuts, the more problems we can create."

He added unless people look like they want a fight, the government is unlikely to negotiate and has to see consumers are serious.

Strike negotiations may recently have been required by Heinz bosses after leaders of a union representing their workers warned more industrial action could be taken over Christmas.
