Faster answers won’t make you a better negotiator. Better thinking will.

The Negotiation Studio is The Gap Partnership’s AI-powered negotiation platform, bringing 30 years of specialist expertise together with a suite of purpose-built tools to help people challenge their thinking, strengthen their preparation and practice their approach before the real negotiation begins.

Ask a general LLM to help you prepare for a negotiation and, within seconds, you’ll have an opening position, a list of concessions and something that looks remarkably like a strategy. It will probably sound convincing. But that’s the problem. Something can sound convincing and still be wrong.

Two things are often true in negotiation: it is rarely neat enough for an instant answer, and there is always more complexity beneath the surface than first appears. You never have quite as much information as you'd like. People want different things. Relationships have history. Power shifts. And what seems perfectly reasonable from your side of the table can look completely different from the other.

So good preparation isn’t so much about filling in a plan as it is about questioning it. What are we assuming? Where does the power actually sit? What does the other side value that we haven’t spotted? Are we really seeing this from their perspective, or simply getting better at defending our own?

That’s where generic AI has its limits. It can give you a plausible answer very quickly - but in negotiation, plausible isn’t always enough. So, what if AI knew more about negotiation?

That is the thinking behind The Negotiation Studio.

The Negotiation Studio is The Gap Partnership’s AI-powered platform, built on 30 years of our negotiation methodology, research and experience. The idea is simple: take what we know about how people prepare for and conduct negotiations and use AI to make that expertise available when people need it.

At the heart of it is The Negotiation Brain, the specialist negotiation intelligence behind The Negotiation Studio. And then there are two ways to put that intelligence to work.

First, prepare

The Negotiation Planner is there to make you think. A good plan shouldn’t just give you somewhere tidy to record what you already know. It should make you stop. Question an assumption. Spot something you’ve missed. Look at the situation differently. That’s what The Negotiation Planner is designed to do. Not prepare the negotiation for you but help you do a better job of preparing it yourself.

Then, practice

Because preparation on paper only gets you so far. Nobody would walk onto a stage to play a piano recital without rehearsing first. Yet negotiators routinely test their strategy for the first time when the other person is sitting opposite them.

The Negotiation Simulator gives you the chance to do that.

Try an approach. See where the conversation goes. Say the wrong thing. Try again. Find out what happens when your beautifully prepared strategy meets resistance. Better to discover that in practice than when something valuable is on the table. And then, it’s over to you.

This is the part I think matters most. AI can help you prepare. It can challenge your assumptions and give you somewhere to practice. But it doesn’t know the person sitting opposite you in the way you do. It hasn’t lived the relationship. It can’t read the room. And it won’t have to live with the outcome.

You will.

The point of The Negotiation Studio isn’t to hand negotiation over to AI. It’s to use AI to help people arrive at the real negotiation having thought harder and practised more.

Buying running shoes doesn’t make you marathon-ready. Having AI doesn’t make you a better negotiator. But use both properly and they can help - and then you still have to negotiate.

Your people are already using AI. The more interesting question is whether it’s making them better.
